Unable to Update Norton™ Antivirus Signatures
- Norton Live update server maybe facing temporary downtime or congestion.
- Computer maybe infected by a Virus or other Malicious software.
- Norton LiveUpdate is an application developed by Symantec Corporation that downloads and installs security updates such as spyware, firewall, or antivirus signature files.
- Norton Live Update can occasionally malfunction and terminate connection with your computer.
- For Norton Security or Norton Security with Backup: Click Help, and then select Get Support.
- For Norton 360 or Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiVirus: Click Support, and then select Get Support.
- Restart your computer, and try installation again. If it still fails go to Step 2.
- Go to the Intelligent Updater downloads page. http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95.
- This is the Symantec & Norton website where you can find the latest versions of antivirus signatures.
- Depending on the version of Windows, download the appropriate file.
- For Windows 8/7/Vista/XP 32-bit: Click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i32.exe. e.g. 20070828-017-v5i32.exe.
- Save the program to the Windows desktop. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the virus definitions using Intelligent Updater.
- If the problem persists, then your computer may be infected. Go to Step 3.
- Norton Power Eraser is a free virus removal tool that can be downloaded and run to remove malware and threats from your computer.
- Download Norton Power Eraser. Select the location as Desktop, and then click Save.
- To run Norton Power Eraser, double-click the NPE.exe file. If the User Account Control window prompts, click Yes or Continue.
- In the Norton Power Eraser window, click the Scan for Risks icon. When you see a prompt to restart the computer, click Restart.
- Wait for the scan to complete. Exit all the programs, and restart your computer.
