Problem Description:
Norton 360 is often preinstalled on new computers. Some users may want to uninstall this free trial version to block Norton pop-ups from interrupting work. Or an older version of Norton 360 may block installation of a newer version of the software or some other antivirus. Sometimes the Windows Add/Remove Program does not work and fragments of Norton services are still left on the computer.
Affected Products:
Norton 360; Norton 360 Premier Edition;
Cause of the Problem:
  • Norton 360 installation or configuration files may be corrupted.
  • Norton upgrade or an installation was only partially completed.
  • Conflict with another security software is blocking installation.
Instructions for Uninstalling Norton 360 :
Step 1 : Try removing Norton using the Uninstall Norton 360 utility
  1. Login in as an administrator & close Norton 360 and all other programs and personal files.
  2. Click the Start button, select All Programs, open Norton 360 entry on the currently installed program list; scroll down and launch the "Uninstall Norton 360".
  3. Windows User Account Control pop-up may show up. Select yes, if it does.
  4. Norton 360 may give an uninstall preferences such as whether you want to retain old settings and data. Keep the old data and settings if you plan to reinstall Norton.
  5. If Norton Un-installation gives error, Go to Step 2.
Step 2 : Try removing Norton 360 using Windows Installer
  1. Open the “Add or Remove Program” control panel applet.
  2. Find Norton 360 software, select it.
  3. Uninstall Norton Security with Windows Installer.
  4. If Norton Un-installation gives error.
  5. Go to Step 3.
Step 3 : Try removing using Norton Removal Tool
  1. Norton has a specialized tool called Norton Removal Tool.
  2. Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2003 and later products including Norton 360, from your computer. Make sure that you have the installation CDs to reinstall the product.
  3. Download the Norton Removal Tool & Save the file to the Windows desktop.
  4. On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal Tool icon. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Restart your computer. After the computer restarts, follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall your Norton product.
